I love music. I always have. It has played a large part in my family and in my life. I rarely don’t have music on, sometimes to my quiet husbands frustration. I’m thankful I was born in a day and age when music is so assessable.
Because of the influence music on my life, each of my books has a song. It is kind of like a couples song. It is the song I feel sums up the story the best. I also use songs to remind me of future writing plans. They serve as a guide post for the stories I haven’t written by being a point I can focus on to remind myself of what I’m hoping to do.
So: Here is my Story Playlist:
The Dorian Chronicles:
When Skies are Gray: An urban fantasy, multi-generational story of the rise of the modern-American serial killer.
Theme Song: Iris by the GooGoo Dolls. I’ve always loved this song and the line, “I’d give up forever to touch you”. I loved it so much I wrote a whole part where Crow can’t touch Olive and how it breaks him down and remakes him.
Never Know Love: An urban fantasy story of the rise of the SoulDefender in the wake of the serial killers let loose in America.
Theme Song: She Dances by Josh Groban. The first time I heard this song I cried. The SoulDefender in this story falls in love with the witch of Dance but loses her in the end. This song me think that maybe Ronan and Sundance had their moment together.
Don’t Take my Sun: An urban fantasy story of the last battle of the SoulDefender and the unexpectedly saved serial killer who inherits his powers.
Marriage of a Hunter Series:
Happy Thought: A vampire hunter joins forces with a deformed bounty hunter to stop a vampire killing craze of the South’s seniors.
Theme Song: Would you go with Me by Josh Turner. This song makes me smile. It is such a male/female song. It is the man asking the woman to walk by his side even if he doesn’t know where he is going. It is the man asking the woman to stay with him even when she could be free. I love this song cause Quinn stays by Trent’s side even when he doesn’t know the way.
Hero’s Story: A vampire hunter tries to protect a woman with multiple-personality disorder from the vampire who killed her little brother twenty years ago….the same one who started him on his path to become a hunter.
Theme Song: How Firm a Foundation. This song surprised me but it is perfect for this story. Sky is being jerked around by a demon and has no foundation. Nothing is what it seems. Battles are being fought and people are being hurt. Who can they trust in?
Hope’s Journey: A vampire hunter follows the bloody trail of an abused woman to a vampire with no hope and a taste for the unborn.
Theme Song: Barton Hollow by the Civil Wars. This song is about hopeless people and gave me the idea of how terrible someone could be if they had no hope of salvation.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this peek into the workings of my mind. I’m sure some of these songs will change over time. The fun part is that when I hear these songs on the radio I get to bring so much more to them than just the story they are telling.
